About us

Eleos Capital Advisors is a new boutique portfolio management advisory business established in the summer of 2020 by Melissa Hill and Stephen Rees.

Melissa and Stephen have a tried and tested business partnership, having worked together for over a decade, at the multiple award-winning Sabre Fund Management.

The Co-Founders of Eleos have established this new venture to offer a fresh perspective on their many years of experience in quantitative equity markets. Their aim is to capture new market dynamics whilst adhering to tried and tested investment techniques. Paramount is the application of ESG criteria to deliver added value in portfolio construction.

The Eleos philosophy is that in collaborating in a spirit of openness, trust and integrity, this will lead to the building of a sustainable business, grounded in strong client relationships and consistent delivery of objectives.

The Founders

Melissa Hill Co Founder

Melissa began her career in asset management in 1996, on joining Sabre Fund Management. She was instrumental in the launch of Sabre’s first quantitative equity strategy in 1997 and responsible for the growth of Sabre’s business, via the acquisition of new teams, development of new funds and building strategic partnerships.

She has extensive knowledge of the hedge fund business, having held the positions of Marketing Director, Chief Operating Officer and, latterly, CEO from 2006 to 2019. She chaired Sabre’s Board, the Risk Management Committee and also served as a member of the Investment Committee. In 2019 she led the merger of Sabre’s business with Trium Capital LLP.

Melissa is well known in the hedge fund industry, having been one of the few women in senior, equity ownership positions, in the early days of European hedge funds.

Stephen Rees Co Founder

Stephen has enjoyed a long career in systematic investment in both the long only and hedge fund arenas, starting at BZW (Barclays) in 1991 where he developed and managed one of the first UK equity quant funds.

He has held senior positions at blue-chip City of London firms. He was Head of Quantitative Investment at both Rothschild (1995-97) and Baring Asset Management (1997-2002) and Head of Investment Process Research at Schroders (2002-2009).

He joined Sabre Fund Management in 2009 and was appointed to the Board in 2017. Stephen served as a senior portfolio manager & Head of Investment Risk, being part of Sabre’s award-winning investment team.

Stephen has a Ph.D. in Mathematical Physics from Cambridge University.

Our Story

Eleos Capital Advisors came into being in the summer of 2020 when we finally realised our vision of forming a boutique advisory business, where we could capitalise on our complementary investment and business skills and our strong working relationship.

Before forming Eleos, we had worked together since 2009, at Sabre Fund Management. During that time we forged what we feel is a very rare partnership. We approach investment & client solutions, each with the same mindset, but with a blend of both overlapping and complementary skills and perspectives. The solutions we arrive at invariably benefit from our combined interactions. A thought from one of us gets built on by the other until we both know that we have found the ‘right answer’. We feel that with us, the whole is always greater than the sum of the parts.

We have a proven record of managing and advising assets through good times and bad. We pride ourselves especially on our transparency in client relationships, offering detailed portfolio and risk analysis in all market environments.

Together, we have experienced multiple market environments, whilst managing portfolios and being guardians of institutional client assets.
